Apple TV seen reaching seven more European nations on Tues.

Apple will finally bring the Apple TV to seven more European countries on Tuesday, a MacRumors report says. The company has allegedly informed resellers of the plan, which should specifically see the set-top come to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. In Finland, at least, pricing is expected to be €119, or about $160. In the US the hardware sells for just $99 before tax....

Apple pushes for iTunes Match, iTunes in the Cloud worldwide

Apple is pressing to get the same deals for iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match in the rest of the world that it has in the US, contacts explained Friday. Label negotiation details relayed to CNET had it replicating the same terms in other countries. Deals were "close," but nothing had been formalized yet, the insiders said....

AT&T confirms iPhone insurance hike on October 4th

Insurance costs will indeed be going up for AT&T iPhone owners on October 4th, as rumored, a page on the carrier's website reveals. On that date insurance rates are scheduled to jump from $5 to $7, affecting new and existing customers alike. The hike is happening in conjunction with the creation of a new device tier, covering the iPhone and "other devices" for which a $199 non-refundable deductible will apply....

AT&T to begin throttling top 5 percent of data users

AT&T is set to begin throttling the speed of the top five percent of heaviest data users beginning Saturday, October 1st. Even users with grandfathered "unlimted" data plans will experience reduced speeds once their usage puts them in the top five percent, but the throttling will end at the end of the billing cycle until the user once again uses too much data, said the company. A Reddit user showed 9to5Mac a text warning he got from his provider as proof....

Adobe conference announcement coincides with Apple's

Either by sheer coincidence or simple bad planning, Adobe -- about to kick off its annual Adobe Max developer conference -- has scheduled an announcement from the company on Tuesday, October 4th at 10 a.m. Pacific time, exactly the same date and time that Apple will be making its highly-anticipated iPhone (and perhaps more) announcements at the company's town hall stage in Cupertino. Adobe has said even less than Apple about the nature of its announcement....

Double Fine releases Psychonauts app

The great game developer Double Fine has released an app for the App Store, and it's related to their very popular game Psychonauts (which recently arrived on the Mac App Store itself), but it's not, unfortunately, a port of the game. The Psychonauts Vault Viewer is instead sort of an ancillary add-on to the title, a compendium of all of the game's "memory vault" animations, along with new commentary from the game's creators Scott Campbell and Tim Schafer. It's interesting but if you've never played Psychonauts, you probably won't find a lot of enjoyment in the app itself. If you love the game, the app is like an extras DVD, with lots of game content and some other features.

Vault Viewer is a free universal app, available now on the App Store. We've seen quite a few game companies use Apple's platform in this way, creating ancillary apps to their main games, and making use of the mobile platforms as a sort of a "second screen" for players either while they're playing or for a game on another platform. I wouldn't be surprised to eventually see a full iOS game from Double Fine, but for now, this is what we've got.

Double Fine releases Psychonauts app originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 19:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Many U.S. Schools Adding iPad, Trimming Textbooks

Stephanie Reitz of Associated Press reports on the growing use of iPad in public secondary school classrooms this fall, noting a ?move away from textbooks in favor of the lightweight tablet computers.? Educator benefits range from using iPad for interactive demonstrations of math solutions to teaching children with autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities. Principal Patrick Larkin of Boston?s Burlington High School calls iPad a better long-term investment than textbooks, saying, ?The bottom line is that the iPads will give our kids a chance to use much more relevant materials.?
