TaskRabbit iPhone app lets you crowdsource your tasks

TaskRabbit is a unique service that lets busy people offload their tasks to those willing to do them. It costs a small fee, but you can have your groceries delivered, laundry done and dogs walked before you return home from a busy day at work.

When it launched, the service was web-based only, but TaskRabbit recently developed an iPhone app that lets you manage your tasks on the run. You can create a new task, monitor the progress of a task and even price a task using information based from the TaskRabbit service. It lets you add descriptions using a voice recording or images so the person completing your task knows exactly what to do.

It's an interesting use of modern technology that melds your mundane routine with the power of the crowd. And it's now on the iPhone.

Apple may skip Apple TV update in 2011, sells 480K a quarter

Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple wasn't likely to update the Apple TV this year. New checks in Taiwan showed little signs of a new model coming in the summer, he told AppleInsider. Instead, Apple would rely on the software updates linked to iOS 5, such as for iPad 2 display mirroring, to sell it....

10.7 Reveal the Dock in fullscreen apps

In Lion Apple introduced full-screen apps that take over the screen, hiding the Dock in the process. But don't worry, it's still there, and it doesn't take any magic commands to get to it. Gestures rule in Lion.

To get to the Dock from a fullscreen app, just move the pointer all the way to the edge where the Dock is pinned, then swipe or move the mouse in the same direction again, as if you were trying to move beyond the edge. The Dock pops right up, with no keyboard commands needed.

This is probably the best solution for full-screen apps where you may frequently need to move the pointer quickly to the edge of the screen where the main buttons are likely to be. If it just popped up the Dock when you move the pointer to the edge (as with 'Hide Automatically), it would be a source of frustration.

[crarko adds: It took me a few tries to get this to work. As with many gestures, it requires a pretty light and precise touch. Otherwise you'll just wind up ...

Apple selling more tablets every 2 weeks as Motorola will all year

Motorola announced yesterday that it expects to sell anywhere from 1.3 to 1.5 million Xoom Android tablets for the year. By comparison, Apple figures disclosed during the third quarter financial call show that the company sells that at least that many iPad 2s every two weeks.

The Xoom was widely expected by Motorola to be an "iPad-killer," and the company was the first to market with an Android tablet. Unfortunately, being first meant that there were very few apps available for the device, that the Xoom didn't ship with support for 4G LTE, and that it isn't running the Android 3.x "Honeycomb" operating system found on competing Android tablets.

Not only is Motorola selling fewer Xooms than expected, but the devices are being sold at a discount to clear out inventories in anticipation of new Motorola tablets rolling out later this year. The company is placing its future hopes on tablets and smartphones that will operate on Verizon's fast 4G LTE network.

In the meantime, Apple is steamrolling over the company that used to be the undisputed leader in mobile technology, and doing it without the one feature that Motorola touted in its 2011 Super Bowl ad -- Adobe Flash.
