Apple may oust HP as top portable maker in 2012 through iPad
Apple is on track to topple HP as the most popular portable computer maker when iPads are factored in, new tips from the industry hinted Thursday night. Apple is now estimated to be shipping 15 million MacBooks of all kinds in 2012 and, combined with raised external estimates of 60 million iPads the same year, would amount to 25 to 30 percent of the estimated portable market. HP is expected to ship no more than 50 million notebooks in 2011 but, because it can't count on rapid PC growth or on the TouchPad, isn't considered likely by Digitimes' sources to topple Apple... Verizon will likely admit that iPhone sales fell when it announces its second-quarter results, says Goldman Sachs' Jason Armstrong. The analyst explains that on Wednesday he met with investor relations executives from Verizon Communications, one of Verizon Wireless' parent companies alongside Vodafone. Based on the talk, Armstrong expects that Q2 iPhone sales will be "a touch below" the 2.2 million sold in the first quarter.... 




Insiders leaked Friday that Facebook's "awesome" new product will be video chat. The service should be built on Skype and, though presumed to be mobile, will work in browser as well.
